The Sunflower Seeds

“From an early age reading this book made me feel very empowered, in terms of being a woman different in society”

Keeping this simple mantra of empowerment in her mind, Kalki Koechlin who is a French actress and writer working in Hindi films and known for her unconventional body of work in films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and many others explains the root cause of her confidence.

This book which Kalki speaks about -“The Age of Innocence” follows the loveless marriage of Newland Archer, a lawyer from New York, and May Welland, a New York debutante. The story is a love triangle, for Newland falls in love with the Countess, Ellen Olenska, an unconventional divorcee.

Kalki also mentions her current reading interest which revolves around a book named “The hidden life of trees”. It describes how trees are like human families: tree parents live together with their children, communicate with them, support them as they grow, share nutrients with those who are sick or struggling, and even warn each other of impending dangers.

Recipients of accolades such as a National Film Award, a Filmfare Award, and two Screen Awards have drawn inspiration from these books, “so what are you waiting for?”
