Are We The Frog in the Boiling Water?

This is the uncomfortable question Anand Prasad forced us to confront at the launch of in his new book, 𝙐𝙣𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙡𝙚𝙥𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙩 at The Quorum, Gurgaon, where he was in conversation with 𝐕𝐢𝐤𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚 and released the book to a packed house.

He drew a chilling parallel: Just as a frog doesn’t realize the water is getting hotter until it’s too late, the Indian citizen has slowly adapted to the “creeping erosion of justice.” We have normalized delays, accepted inefficiency, and internalized the belief that the law is an obstacle, not a shield.

But the conversation at The Quorum made one thing clear: 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿. 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀. ⚡

Prasad moved beyond the problems to propose “blue-sky” solutions to fix India’s legal infrastructure:

🏛️ 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀—𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗿𝗮 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆.

🤖 𝗔𝗜-𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲: 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗼𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗸𝘀.

⚖️ 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀 𝗼𝗳 ‘𝗗𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮’—𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗳𝘁, 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲.

The “Elephant” in the room isn’t just the economy; it’s the justice system that underpins it. As discussed in the room, we cannot be a $5 Trillion economy with a judicial system that moves at a snail’s pace.

It is time to turn off the heat, jump out of the water, and finally unshackle the potential of this nation. 🐘🇮🇳
